Wine Classes

At Wine² we feel that education is the key to appreciating wine. We believe one can be an oenophile (a wine enthusiast) without being a snob.

Everyone has to start exploring wine in an area in which they feel comfortable.  You may be ready to explore 40 year old Bordeauxs or perhaps you want to start with dessert wines.

Either way there is no wrong place to start and no incorrect tastes, only an accumulation of knowledge.

That's why we offer wine classes, everything from basics to tasting young wines with aging potential. We also offer special server classes for those who work in fine dining. We welcome restaurants to contact us regarding training their staff at either our place or yours!

Below is the current schedule for classes. If you'd like to schedule a private class please let us know.

***Please note that the attire and atmosphere of our classes are casual. However, please do not wear cologne, perfume or other scented products to the class and unscented fabric softener is appreciated. Remember that gum, sodas and toothpaste immediately prior to the class greatly hinder your tasting ability.

Reservations are strongly encouraged for our classes. We limit attendance to 14. If we do not have at least 7 RSVPs we do not conduct class.***

All Classes are 7pm on Mondays. Reservations are highly recommended as class space is limited to 14. Prices are per person and include tasting.

Class Schedule

January 11 Terroir Tastes

The famous importer Kermit Lynch says that terroir is the soul of wine. The concept, first laid out by the French, identifies the specific growing conditions of the grapes as being the driving force of a wine’s character and taste. We will taste some wines from very specific terroirs and discuss their influence on the flavors. RSVP Only $15 per person

January 18 Sweet Wine

In the wine industry we refer to wines with higher sugar contents as sweet wines, not dessert wines. That’s because these bottles are usually better suited for pairing with savory foods not sweets at the end of a meal. Join us for a very special tasting of rich, savory foods and exquisite nectars. RSVP Only $25 per person (Please note: this class must have 7 reservations to be held!)

January 25 Ribera del Duero

This historic growing region in Spain traces its wine roots back 2000 years to the Roman era. It is also home of Spain’s most expensive wine from the famed Vega Sicilia winery. However, there are great values to be had here. The Tempranillo grape is widely planted and often shares space with Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha in the bottle. RSVP Only $18

 February 1 Wine & Chocolate

Ah, two of life’s best pleasures that marry so well. But not all wine and all chocolate go together. Only offered twice a year, this class is not to be missed as we taste various types of juice with milk, dark and flavored chocolate. RSVP Only $20

February 8 Aphrodisiac Pairings

Inspired by the beautifully written and illustrated Intercourses Cookbook, each year we have this fun, feisty class where we explore the sexy side of food and wine. Each wine will be paired with a special dish and recipes will be handed out. Not to be missed! RSVP Only $25 per person (Please note: this class must have 7 reservations to be held!)

February 15 South of France

The Southern part of Wine’s most famous country is often ignored. Snobs like to put their noses in the air when referring to the non-designated areas of wine growing. Well, simply put, they are wrong! Some of the most intriguing and surprising taste profiles can come from the South of France. The values are unbelievable. RSVP Only $15 per person

February 22 Austria

Possessing one of Europe’s longest running wine traditions; Austria is famous for their sweet wines. However, there is much more to this part of the wine world than that. Join us as we explore the complex, food friendly wines of Austria. RSVP Only $15 per person

March 1 Wine 101

It’s time for another Basics class. Curious about what all this wine speak means, the proper way to taste, what’s terroir? We will talk about basic grape varieties, a bit of the production process, the differences between Old World and New World and some regions. Of course, there will be plenty of time for questions and tasting. RSVP Only $15 per person.
